Matt. 4:1-4 (MSG)-“Next Jesus was taken into the wild by the Spirit for the Test. The Devil was ready to give it. Jesus prepared for the Test by fasting forty days and forty nights. That left him, of course, in a state of extreme hunger, which the Devil took advantage of in the first test: "Since you are God’s Son, speak the word that will turn these stones into loaves of bread." Jesus answered by quoting Deuteronomy: "It takes more than bread to stay alive. It takes a steady stream of words from God’s mouth."
Matt. 6:8(MSG)-“This is your Father you are dealing with, and he knows better than you what you need. With a God like this loving you, you can pray very simply. Like this: ….“Keep us alive with three square meals (Matt. 6:11).”
We need bread to eat in order to survive, but there are more vital aspects to life than just bread. Jesus is training our hearts to turn us to Him- the Bread that really satisfies. Jesus is the Bread of Life!
Jesus’ prayer and proclamation teaches us three basic principles:
1. We must dependency on God for everything.
2. We should have gratitude for the most basic of things in our life.
3. Bread alone will never satisfy. (We need the Bread of Life)!
Ps: 42:1-2 (MSG)-“A white-tailed deer drinks from the creek; I want to drink God, deep draughts of God. I’m thirsty for God-alive. I wonder, "Will I ever make it— arrive and drink in God’s presence?"
The most essential keys to a godly life come from learning that we must have a deep dependency on God at all times. We have to be gratefully glad for all things that pass through our life – pain and pleasures. We should hunger and thirst for Him evermore. Let us not forget that “The bread of life” hungered to become the bread that we would partake of in order to never hungry again.
